Prayer Letter: August 2018

Dear Praying Friends and Family, Thank you for your prayers, care, and support this month. We appreciate the Lord’s provision and protection. We are praying for salvation of souls and that people would get the fear of God into them. There is still a stalemate war going on in the East, although it largely doesn’t affect the lives of the average Ukrainian. The Ukrainian army has their positions in place, the side that is supported by Russia has their positions, and it will remain that way for some time, although there is continual artillery and sniper fire, and a slow stream of wounded and dead. We were able to talk to a couple who had to leave that area in Eastern Ukraine and are now living in Kyiv. Unfortunately, they were not inclined to accept Christ, but were content to find work in the capital and rebuild their lives. How sad it would be to have to leave your home, fear for your life and belongings, work for years to regain what you lost, and then lose it all when you die. Mark 8:36 says, For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

Please pray for the efforts of one brother in Western Ukraine. After receiving the Russian translation of the King James Bible a few years ago, his eyes were opened to the thousands of places in which it differs from the widely-accepted Russian Synodal Bible of the 1870’s. Along with his friend, an English-speaking former colonel in the army, and both of their families, he’s become a staunch Bible-believer. They have attended almost every Institute and revival week for the past few years. He has completed the translation of the King James Bible into Ukrainian, and desires to get it in completed form by next year. Naomi has been working on a large project to transcribe the Ukrainian Bible into document form for further editing and revision. We were able to get John and Romans booklets in Russian and Ukrainian printed with a plan of salvation throughout the text.

The Lord blessed our tent meeting earlier this month. We were able to help out for a week in the town of Cherepyn, which has a population of around 600. We saw a group of around 40 children come out for the daily activities, and also a night service. At least 8 of them made a profession of faith after hearing the preaching. An added blessing was that several of the children were visiting their grandparents in the town, but actually live in Kyiv. We invited them to the church, and are praying that their parents will come out to services as well. During the tent meeting, we were able to pass out many tracts, as well as the Ukrainian John/Romans.

We are thankful that we were able to provide several large orders of free KJV Russian New Testaments to several different churches. One of them will provide these New Testaments to people in Eastern Ukraine, and the other will conduct meetings in another part of the country. As in the John and Romans booklets, each of these New Testaments have a plan of salvation in the back, so we pray for these Bibles to bring forth fruit in areas that other churches labour in. Again, thank you for your prayers for the meetings this month. We appreciate you all, and are praying for you.

Until His return, David and Naomi Lohman
