Prayer Letter: September 2016
Dear Praying Friends and Family,
Thank you again for your prayers and support. September has brought the end of summer, the return of children to school, and cooler weather. While the summer harvest is coming in, it reminds us of the year-round spiritual planting, tending, and harvesting in the Lord’s fields.
Thank you for your prayers for our trip down to Berdiansk. The Lord gave us a good trip and blessed our time. The city is located about 60 miles from the front lines in the east, but we were able to get in and move about freely with only a few checkpoints to cross. We were able to meet with the group that desires a church in that area, deliver material to them, and set up the beginning of a Bible-believing Baptist church. Lord willing, we will maintain close contact with them and travel regularly to the area to preach until a national pastor takes the work. There is a great need in many other parts of Ukraine for a strong Bible believing church and faithful men and women to serve the Lord.
Concerning the situation in the east, the government and pro-Russian sides have been recently under an unsteady cease-fire. There are reports of casualties often, and the tense political situation between the two sides is still far from being resolved. Ukraine’s hope is to hold the line until sanctions against Russia pressure the rebels to return to the Ukrainian state. It is still uncertain how the situation will turn out, but we are thankful for the freedom while we have it to preach the Gospel openly. Ukraine has shown a desire to be far more open and receptive than Russia in recent years. Ukraine recently upheld a law permitting open evangelism, while Russia is becoming increasingly hostile to missions and church work.
We will be working on evangelism for upcoming events in October; Thanksgiving service and family day, which we pray will bring visitors and salvation of souls. Remember us in prayer and for the field and harvest in Ukraine. Thank you again!
Love in Christ,
David and Naomi Lohman
