Prayer Letter- May 2016
Dear Praying Friends and Family,
I can’t thank you all enough for your prayers and support. The Lord has been good to me; providing safety on the road and to Kyiv, Ukraine. I arrived safely on May 13 with no complications or delays. That can only be credited to the Lord answering your prayers on our behalf. It was wonderful to touch down in Kyiv knowing that this is the place the Lord called us to do His will.
We faced an unexpected heartache, as Naomi’s grandmother passed away suddenly on May 16th. She lived in the town of Uman, about 3 hours south of Kiev. We found it necessary to travel down not only for the funeral, but also to stay and manage her small farmhouse and land for a few days. There was much work to do to help the family and sort out everything. The funeral went well, and our large majority of saved family members were a good witness to the Orthodox neighbors and friends who came by to pay their respects. A clear presentation of salvation was given at both the funeral and graveside services. We took comfort in the fact that her grandmother had a testimony of salvation, and passed away peacefully. Although we looked forward to spending time with her in the future, we now look forward to seeing her again after this life is finished.
In the few days in Uman, we visited the grave of Nachman of Breslov, an 18th-century Rabbi who taught his followers to pursue a closeness to God. His grave attracts tens of thousands of Hasidic Jewish pilgrims during Rosh Hashanah in September. Before his death, Nachman promised that he would pull anyone out of hell who comes to his grave and prays. It’s tragic that these thousands of Jews reject Jesus Christ, the true Messiah, intercessor and only Savior, and seek the intercession of a man whose bones lie in a box in Uman. Our mission is to be a witness in Ukraine for Jesus Christ, Savior of both Jews and Gentiles, our only access to God the Father.
Continue to pray for us as I get accustomed and settled in Ukraine, and as Naomi and I prepare for our wedding. We will have a busy month of preparation, travel, and evangelism in the next few weeks, and we appreciate your prayers and friendship.
Love in Christ,
David Lohman
